Two people are in custody and a loaded firearm has been seized following a police operation in Leppington this morning.

Police were alerted to an apparent domestic violence-related incident involving a man and woman from two vehicles outside a home in Dwyer Road, Leppington, about 7.30am.

A resident who attempted to intervene was threatened with a firearm and a shot was fired towards him. No one was injured.

Both vehicles – a utility and a blue Subaru – left the scene and were intercepted by a Highway Patrol vehicle and a pursuit was initiated when the drivers failed to stop as directed.

The vehicles were followed to Edmondson Park, where the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

Specialist police units were called to assist including PolAir, and the utility was later sighted at the intersection of Corfield Road and Camden Valley Way at Edmondson Park where it crashed about 8.10am into a Suzuki Swift.

Police took two men into custody from the utility and a loaded firearm was seized.

A woman from the Swift – which is unrelated to the first incident – was trapped within the wreckage before being released about 9am.

She has been taken to Liverpool Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The blue Subaru was found in a street in Edmondson Park a short time ago and has been seized for forensic examination.

Police are now waiting to talk with a woman who they believe may be involved in the original domestic violence incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.

In a separate incident, a man will face court over the assault yesterday of an off-duty police officer near Camden.

About 3.45pm yesterday two off-duty police officers became involved in an altercation with a 20-year-old man at a service station on Richardson Road, Spring Farm.

While police were attempting to arrest the man, the man punched the off-duty officer in the face.

Another off-duty officer – who was driving past – came to the assistance of the two off-duty police and brought the man under control.

The officer who was punched in the face was hospitalised for facial swelling and bruising. He has since been released from Liverpool Hospital.

The other officers received minor injuries.

A 20-year-old man received a cut above his eye and was taken to Campbelltown Hospital under police guard.

The man was released and taken back to Narellan Police Station where he was charged with common assault, assaulting a police officer in execution of his duty and cause actual bodily harm, and resist an officer in execution of his duty.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Picton Local Court on September 25.
