Welcome aboard: Tony Mathew, CEO Wests Group Macarthur and Fred Furner, president of Macarthur BMX Club and his son, Jai.

Wests Sports Council has welcomed their newest member, Macarthur BMX Club.

The council now has a total of 27 and plans to continue expanding throughout the year and beyond.

Macarthur BMX Club was established in 1998 at their home track location on Hilder Street, Elderslie.

The local group of dedicated parents then took on the task of building a sports club in the local Elderslie area that provided a safe environment for young children, teenagers and even adults to ride their bikes.

The club took on increasing numbers as the surrounding areas grew in population, with a huge number of young families moving into the area and becoming members of the Macarthur BMX Club.

The popularity of BMX – and the Macarthur club – went up after it was included in the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, China.

At the end 2017, Macarthur BMX had just under 400 members and was considered one of the largest and most successful clubs in NSW.
