The Lions started well against UNSW after being sent in, but have now lost 7 for 191.

Despite an opening partnership of 112 between openers Wendel Delpechitra and Dean Attard, the Fairfield Liverpool Lions are in a heap of trouble after the first day of the round six match against University of NSW.

Playing at their home ground, Rosedale Oval at Warwick Farm, the Lions were sent in by UNSW, and for a while it seemed the decision by the visitors had backfired.

But the departure of Delpechitra when the score was 112 triggered a batting collapse from the Lions.

At stumps, they were 7 for 191 and will now be hoping their tail wags enough to take the score at least past the 200 mark next Saturday morning.

Delpechitra made 54 before departing, and 12 runs later his partner, Dean Attard, also lost his wicket when he was on 67 and the score 2 for 124.

Next to go was Anthony Clark, who had also made a half century, and all of a sudden the Lions went from none for 112 to three for 134.

But worse was to come with Jake Doran next out for a duck.

And when the Sandu boys came and went scoring just six runs between them, the rout was complete.

Harmon made six runs before departing, while Gurinder didn’t bother the scorers when he lost his wicket, the seventh of the day for the home side.

But at least the Lions got to play, whereas the Camden Campbelltown Ghosts’ away clash with Hawkesbury was washed out without a ball being bowled.
