Ghosts will have to do it the hard way again

The Ghosts were in trouble at tea
The Ghosts were in trouble at tea, with Sydney having lost just two wickets. But by the end of the day they were 9/363 and the Ghosts were back in the game at Raby 1.

For the third match in a row this season the Campbelltown Camden Ghosts will need to come from behind to win.

When they bat against Sydney at Raby on Saturday they will be chasing a mammoth 364 for victory, unless the visitors, who were 9-363 at stumps, decide to bat on this weekend.

That’s unlikely to happen, but the Ghosts will still have their work cut out after toiling hard on the field for the entire day last Saturday.

The Ghosts had been able to claim just two scalps by the time tea rolled around and things were looking grim as skipper Jarrad Burke led his young team off the field for the break.

Burke was spotted vigorously encouraging his team to hang in there, and it paid off as the Ghosts restricted Sydney to 363 after claiming seven wickets after the tea break.

Burke lost the toss and the visitors had no hesitation in electing to bat first on the flat Raby 1 wicket, in overcast, yet ideal batting conditions.

Jarrad Burke was again among the wickets, finishing with 4 for 80 off 26 overs, taking his aggregate for the first three games to an impressive 14 wickets thus far.

Three of his wickets on Saturday came in that crucial post tea session when Sydney threatened to take the game away from the Ghosts.

Recently selected NSW under 19 bowlers Iain Carlisle and Sam Skelly hit the pitch hard, with Carlisle going for a little over 2 runs per over and each of the young bowlers taking a wicket.

Burke remained positive after the day, with the Ghosts having chased down Fairfield Liverpool Lions’ handy total of 378 the previous Saturday.

Play will resume this coming Saturday at 10.30am.
