Englishman Ollie Pope smacked another century for the Ghosts on the weekend – 113 against Eastern Suburbs at Waverley Oval.

The Ghosts have drawn their round 12 match with Eastern Suburbs to pick up just the one premiership point.

It was their fourth draw in an otherwise outstanding season for captain coach Jarrad Burke and his young Macarthur team.

But their second consecutive draw means the Ghosts are now in real danger of missing the finals, despite having led the competition for most of the season.

It has also highlighted a potential lack of a killer instinct when the Ghosts need to take all 10 wickets to bag six premiership points.

They have had no trouble chasing big targets, but the Ghosts seem to have a problem dismissing teams.

Nor do the Ghosts have any limitations when it comes to setting big targets after batting first,

This was the case at Waverley Oval against Eastern Suburbs on the weekend.

On Saturday morning, having won the toss, the home side invited the Ghosts to bat first.

The boys from Macarthur said, thank you very much, and proceeded to amass 372 runs before they were all out.

Englishman Ollie Pope with 113 and Jaydyn Simmons (78) demolished the home side’s attack and more than made up for a rare failure by skipper Jarrad Burke (5) and Philip Wells (14).

In reply, Eastern Suburbs reached 8/321 off 95 overs,

Try as they might, the Ghosts’ bowling attack just couldn’t take the last two wickets needed for victory.

Jarred Lysaught with three wickets was the pick of the Ghosts bowlers, while Sam Skelly and skipper Jarrad Burke picked up two scalps each.

The draw means the Ghosts are in fourth spot on the ladder with 46 points, same as third placed Parramatta and fifth placed Sydney. Sydney University and Sutherland are first and second on 49 points, while Manly is sixth with 44 points.

There are three rounds to go, with the Ghosts back home at Raby in round 13 this weekend when they will host Bankstown, who are just outside the top six.
