Elderslie man charged with sexual assault of teenage girl

A man has appeared in court today after he was charged with sexual assault of a teenage girl earlier this year.

Earlier this week, officers from Camden Police Area Command received a report at 14-year-old girl was approached from behind and sexually touched by a man known to her when she was in her front yard.

The matter was referred to detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 68-year-old man yesterday at a home in Elderslie.

He was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with three counts of intentionally sexually touching a child aged between 10 and 16 and entering a dwelling with intent.

The man was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court.

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.

In a separate incident, police are appealing for information after a man was shot in Harrington Park on Wednesday night.

Residents called police after hearing gunshots in Doolan Crescent around 11.40pm.

Officers from the Camden Police Area Command attended the location a short time after and a canvas of the area was conducted.

Just after midnight a 39-year-old man presented to Liverpool Hospital with a gun-shot wound to his arm.

Police were notified and an investigation commenced.

Now police would like to speak to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident.

A white Volkswagen Golf sedan was seen in the area around the time of the alleged shooting and any information regarding its occupants may assist police with their inquiries.
