How will Campbelltown look in 20 years when another 110,000 people call it home?
Change on the way: How will Campbelltown look in 20 years when another 110,000 people call it home?

If it all goes to plan, in 20 years an extra 110,000 people will call Campbelltown home.

And while that massive increase sounds dramatic it could also mean we’re in for an exciting ride.

In the meantime, preparing for this giant growth in our population, Campbelltown City Council has outlined its plans for a vibrant, thriving and successful city of the future in its draft Community Strategic Plan for the next 10 years.

The plan was developed in consultation with the community, to ensure Campbelltown remains strong and resilient, and is ready for the growth in population, housing, industry and jobs forecast over the next 20 years.

It reflects community aspirations for a city designed for “ambition, innovation and opportunity’’, and aims to deliver a city that is vibrant and liveable, thriving and attractive, successful and one which respects and protects its natural environment.

The plan is on exhibition for public input until Friday, June 9.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said community stakeholders, from residents and property and business owners to community groups, workers and students had been eager to share their vision for the Campbelltown City of the future.

“The community told us they want a city designed for ambition, innovation and opportunity, and the draft Community Strategic Plan reflects those aspirations,” he said.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“The population of Campbelltown City is expected to grow from 158,000 to around 270,000 people by 2036, and while growth on that scale may seem daunting, it is also an exciting opportunity to do things a little bit differently.[/social_quote]

“The draft plan includes strategies for conserving the city’s natural environment and improving connectivity between Western Sydney’s cities, and will ensure we have a solid basis on which to build a great city, with a dynamic economy where businesses and families can thrive.”

Residents are encouraged to learn more about the draft Community Strategic Plan, and provide feedback, at one of two community information sessions at Campbelltown City Council Staff Training Centre, 91 Queen Street, Campbelltown from 6pm to 7pm on Wednesday, May 17 or 2pm to 3pm on Tuesday, May 23.

The draft Community Strategic Plan, along with the draft Delivery Program 2017-2021 and the draft Operational Plan 2017-2018 (including the budget, fees and charges), is on exhibition for public comment until June 9.
