A mother of children with special needs and a business owner are among more than 20 community representatives joining the team to plan the $632 million redevelopment of Campbelltown Hospital.

Macarthur region residents Ms Charleene Mundine and Mr Kirk Duncan are excited to have the opportunity to shape the hospital’s future and assist in the project’s design with consumers, carers, families and health workers.

Camden & Campbelltown Hospital general manager Ms Alison Derrett was delighted to welcome the community representatives to the redevelopment project.

“In order to build a hospital facility that meets the needs of our local community, it is vital we listen to local voices,” Ms Derrett said.

“We have made a commitment to consult and engage with the local community across the life cycle of this building project.

“We are really excited to see the interest from our local community.’’

The community representatives will attend user group sessions over the next three months and consider access and movement of staff and patients around the hospital and the look and feel of the space, including furniture and equipment.

Ms Mundine, a long time resident and member of the Aboriginal community, said she was delighted the redevelopment would include expanded paediatric services.

“Having children who utilised special needs services, I am excited that these services and more will be offered in Campbelltown,’’ she said.

“Campbelltown has a large Aboriginal population, and this is an opportunity for us to have a voice in the redevelopment.’’

Mr Duncan is looking forward to bringing his knowledge of business and information technology to the user groups.

“I will bring a fresh, open mind with an information and technology perspective from an individual patient perspective, as well as a family perspective.’’

The NSW Government’s stage two of the hospital redevelopment will include an expanded emergency department, new paediatric service, additional intensive care beds and enhanced mental health care.
