Jamie McLaughlin: from champion AFL footballer to a great business leader

Our region has produced many outstanding sportsmen and women and one who’s right at the top of that pile is Jamie McLaughlin.

He was still a schoolboy at Camden High School when he played in Campbelltown’s first ever Sydney AFL premiership win in 1986.

Young Jamie McLaughlin blitzed them that day and was judged best on ground.

He went on to play in the 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1994 and 1995 Sydney AFL grand finals for the mighty Campbelltown Blues and won the best and fairest player honour four times.

They were the golden years for our local AFL club and the very talented Jamie McLaughlin personified the spirit of the Campbelltown Blues.

He represented NSW a number of times as a senior player, including in the Teal Cup in Perth in 1985.

As a 16 year old, McLaughlin was put on the Swans list as a senior player and played eight reserve grade games with them that year.

When Jamie McLaughlin started turning his attention to developing a career in business he approached it like he did footy as a champion player.

He and his wife Georgie Kennett, whom he met when they both attended Camden High School, purchased a small skip business in the 1990s and have built it into a market leader in waste management.
