Book boxes initiative a page turner

The introduction of Book Boxes means Camden residents can now read books with their children while out and about.

Eight of these wooden boxes have been built by Camden Men’s Shed.

They have been filled with a variety of donated books for young readers and distributed to participating organisations across Camden.

The initiative was coordinated by Camden Paint the Town REaD and supported by Camden Council.

It provides an opportunity for parents and carers to switch off their devices, and instead pass the waiting time reading a good book.

“As the father of four young girls, I know how important it is to read with our young ones,’’ says Camden mayor Peter Sidgreaves..

“It not only helps them with language and listening skills, it also improves communication, concentration and works as a stress reliever,” he said.

“Camden Paint the Town REaD is an initiative which encourages everyone to read, talk, sing and rhyme with children from birth, and these Book Boxes do just that.”
