No to domestic violence: Zonta Macarthur members, guests and speakers, including federal MP Dr Mike Freelander at the Wests Leagues dinner function last week.

Zonta Club of Macarthur held a very special dinner function last week at Wests Leagues club Leumeah.

The main theme of the dinner was to add Zonta’s support for efforts to eliminate violence against women as part of the White Ribbon campaign.

But there was a lot more to the dinner function than that and the highlight of the evening was the official presentation of an amazing array of gifts and resources to the local women’s refuge service.

This year, the Zonta Club’s contributions and community donations were greatly enhanced by a generous grant from Wests Leagues Club.

The gifts and resources included a wide range of household goods, including blankets, sheets, towels, crockery, kitchen utensils, toiletries and items for children.

Dr Michael Freelander, he Federal Member for Macarthur, provided a thought provoking address about his work and involvement in the Social Policy and Legal Affairs Committee.

He spoke of the need Australia-wide, to significantly improve responses to family violence.

The event also featured the award winning Battered Barbie Project which was the International Community Project of the Year in the Hills Shire 2017 Australia Day Award.

The Zonta Club of Sydney Hills created the Battered Barbie Doll display which included dolls that depicted the many different forms of domestic violence.

The display has been used to raise awareness of domestic violence.
