Payton Salter and Campbelltown MP Greg Warren

Payten-Rae Salter, a student at St Patrick’s College for Girls, has been selected as the Member for Campbelltown in the Youth Parliament, which will sit in September. With her is Campbelltown MP Greg Warren, who nominated her for the role.

The local student selected as Campbelltown’s representative in this year’s NSW Youth Parliament wants to be the voice of all young people.

Payten-Rae Salter, who attends St Patrick’s College for Girls, has been selected as the Member for Campbelltown in the Youth Parliament, which will sit in September.

“It’s an honour to have this opportunity to be a voice for the many issues confronting young people in our region,’’ Ms Salter said.

She was nominated and supported for the role by Campbelltown MP Greg Warren.

“I thank Mr Warren for his support and this unique opportunity.

“I encourage any of Campbelltown’s local young people to speak to me about any issues or ideas they think I should pursue,” Ms Salter said.

The Campbelltown MP met Ms Salter during a recent visit to St Patrick’s College, and when nominations for the program opened he says he did not hesitate in nominating her as Campbelltown’s representative.

“Payten-Rae has a passion for social issues and the myriad challenges young people face today,’’ Mr Warren said.

“Campbelltown has many talented and amazing students and youth leaders.

“They’re all fantastic and Payten-Rae is a great example of strength and leadership in our young citizens,’’ he said.

The Youth Parliament is part of the YMCA NSW Youth & Government (Y&G) program and is widely acknowledged for empowering and supporting young people to reach their potential.

Mr Warren said Payten-Rae had highlighted social inclusion, women’s rights, Indigenous affairs and mental health amongst youth as some of the issues that she looks forward to focusing on when she joins the other youth representatives from around NSW in September.

“Payten-Rae will be an exceptional representative,” Mr Warren said.
