Years after the original announcement, work will finally begin on the $632 million upgrade of Campbelltown Hospital.

Once completed in 2022, the work will double the size of the current hospital as well as bring world class health care to the Macarthur community.

An official sod turning ceremony, as well as a smoking ceremony performed by local Aboriginal elder Uncle Ivan Wellington was held on the site of the new clinical services building last Friday.

Representing the Gladys Berejiklian Government was Peter Sidgreaves, the member for Camden.

Mr Sidgreaves said the redevelopment will be the start of an exciting, new era in health care, which will greatly benefit the community of South Western Sydney for years to come.

“This outstanding facility will be a significant boost to health services in south western Sydney and will establish Campbelltown Hospital as an international training ground for the next generation of doctors and researchers,” Mr Sidgreaves said.

“With more clinical services, medical specialties and increased health care services, there will be more local jobs and opportunities for career development.”

The new clinical services building will provide a range of upgraded health services housed within a state-of-the-art facility.

“Patients and staff will benefit from the larger Emergency Department, new modern operating theatres and increased access to cancer, ambulatory care and dental services,” The Camden MP said.

“A substantial boost to women’s health services including modern birthing suites and maternity ward, and enhanced children’s medical and surgical services will be particularly welcomed by the community.”

New era in health care for Macarthur, says Camden MP Peter Sidgreaves.

The project will include:

  • New clinical services building with modern wards and patient facilities
  • Larger emergency department with more treatment spaces
  • Enhanced medical and surgical children’s services
  • Modern, centrally located mental health units
  • State-of-the-art operating theatres and intensive care unit
  • Substantial increase to women’s health services, including birthing suites and maternity ward.
