There’s no doubt more and more local residents are becoming interested in the natural environment of our region.

A comprehensive guide on how to get involved in activities aimed at nurturing and protecting our bushland areas is a good place to start.

In Campbelltown, local residents are encouraged to learn more about the town’s natural environment by taking part in the activities, workshops and awareness campaigns highlighted in the February to June 2018 environmental calendar of events.

Campbelltown City Council compiles and distributes “Your connection to our natural environment’’ twice a year, providing residents with a comprehensive guide to the wealth of ways in which to get involved in protecting and improving the local environment.

For those with a passion for the outdoors, the calendar provides information about Bushcare groups which meet at various locations and times, helping to restore and maintain local bushland by planting trees, weed management and cleaning up litter.

The Dharawal Indigenous Guided Walks are also featured in the calendar.

Held on the second Saturday of every month between February and November, the tours are led by an Aboriginal discovery ranger and give participants the opportunity to fully appreciate our stunning National Park from a Koori perspective.

The Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living regularly hosts free workshops, the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan holds tours and family focused activities.

Residents can also get involved in environmental events such as Clean Up Australia Day on March 4 and Earth Hour on March 24 – and it’s all detailed in the calendar.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the significant bushland and waterways, flora and fauna in Campbelltown motivated locals to get outdoors and connect with nature.

“Council’s environmental calendar highlights a variety of activities residents can participate in to have a positive impact on the environment,” he said.

“Whether you’re keen to roll up your sleeves and pull out weeds to help preserve bushland, discover more about Indigenous culture and the Australian landscape on a walking tour, or learn about water wise gardening and bee keeping at a workshop – the calendar will help you plan your preferred environmental activity.”
