Teenagers can make a splash for free in January

 For teenagers, cooling off in January will be as easy as a splash in the local pool.

It’s all thanks to the popular initiative, Cool Off in Camden, which gives residents aged from 12 to 18 years free entry to Camden War Memorial Pool (below) and Mount Annan Leisure Centre pool for the entire month of January.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the initiative aimed to encourage young residents to get out and about during the school holidays.

 “There’s nothing worse than having a teenager stuck inside, bored, on a beautiful summer’s day,” Cr Fedeli said.

 “The Cool Off in Camden access cards, which are available now, will provide eligible young residents with up to eight free visits right throughout January, which means there are lots of opportunities to get together with friends and families and enjoy the beautiful weather.

“For those of us who don’t fall into that age bracket, there’s still lots to enjoy across the Camden area,’’ Cr Fedeli said.

“The inclusive Curry Reserve Water Play Space is one option. The wet wheelchairs available give wheelchair users the opportunity to play in the park’s water elements, which will attract lots of visitors.

“We’ll also see the highly anticipated water play space at Ron’s Creek open in mid-January, which is really exciting.

“This new space is the region’s biggest splash park and it also includes dry playground equipment. With exciting slides, spinners, swings, in-ground trampolines and more, I know local families will love it.

 “Not to mention the many fantastic parks and reserves throughout the Camden area, which are perfect for family picnics and for kids to run around.”

 To avoid disappointment, council encourages Cool Off in Camden card holders to arrive early as there is a limit of 30 free places per day at each pool.

Young people aged 12 to 14 years must be accompanied at the pool by a paying adult.

Access cards will need to be collected, either by a parent or the young person themselves, from:

  • Camden Library, 40/44 John Street, Camden;
  • Narellan Library, corner Queen and Elyard Streets, Narellan;
  • Camden Council’s Administration Building, 70 Central Avenue, Oran Park;
  • Mount Annan Leisure Centre, 368 Welling Dr, Mount Annan; or
  • Camden War Memorial Pool, corner of Oxley and Mitchell Streets, Camden.
