A teenager has been refused bail to appear in court later today after being charged with several offences including an attempted armed robbery at Macquarie Fields yesterday.

Police say the teenager will appear at a Children’s Court.

It is alleged that around 9am on Thursday (September 21), patrolling police officers from Macquarie Fields Local Area Command saw a 15-year-old youth, with his head covered, walking towards a fast food restaurant on Harold Street.

Upon sighting police, the youth allegedly attempted to flee and violently resisted police when they tried to arrest him.

Several members of the public assisted the officers with the arrest.

During a search of the youth police will allege that they located a 20cm knife and a small quantity of cannabis.

The youth was being sought by officers in relation to a break, enter and steal at Macquarie Fields earlier this week.

After his arrest yesterday, the youth was taken to Macquarie Fields Police Station.

There he was formally charged with attempted armed robbery, being armed with intent, carrying a cutting weapon when he was apprehended, possessing a prohibited drug, resisting arrest and aggravated break, enter and steal.
