New MP Anoulack Chanthivong has hit out at the NSW government for not installing a lift and wheelchair access at Macquarie Fields station.

The Member for Macquarie Fields labelled the lack of accessibility at the station as “shameful’’.

Mr Chanthivong said he would lobby the State Government for a lift and other necessary modifications to ensure the station was accessible to all.

The hard working and decent people of Macquarie Fields were being left behind by a State Government which was intent on overlooking the suburb, even though it was crying out for basic infrastructure, he said in a statement this morning.

“Macquarie Fields station is used by hundreds of people each day and it absolutely stinks that a station on the highly utilised Airport line has no lift and there is no wheelchair access – just a towering stairway,” Mr Chanthivong said.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“It’s completely insulting to the residents of Macquarie Fields and adjoining suburbs, particularly the elderly, people with disability, and those with strollers, who are either stranded because they can’t access the platform or have to travel to adjoining stations at their own inconvenience and expense.[/social_quote]

“The recent State Budget showed the government’s complete lack of regard for our local area.

“The people of Macquarie Fields deserve better.

“Accessibility for all at Macquarie Fields Railway Station is a must, and I will be campaigning strongly for a station upgrade that meets everyone’s needs and capabilities,” Mr Chanthivong said.
