Screeching tyres and police sirens disturb peace of a Friday night

There is always the possibility that even a very quiet neighbourhood could erupt and have violence in the air.

That’s what happened last Friday night in Ingleburn, but it’s something that could happen anywhere.

We’ve all seen it happen before or should that be heard it all: It all seems quiet but suddenly there’s tyres screeching, followed a few minutes later by the sound of police sirens.

One of my news stringers was a witness to an incident that took place in one of Ingleburn’s residential streets last Friday night.

Me, I am at home watching the league Test, having packed up work for the day when an SMS beeps in on my iphone.

There’s the photo of this car which had crashed and a lot of text on what had happened.

Before he knew it, my contact was witness to a full blown manhunt for one of his neighbours, who crashed their car on Amilcar Street, jumped out and did a runner from the scene.

A police helicopter joined the effort to find the driver, and down below on terra firma two police officers doing the leg work searching surrounding streets and a local park known as Koala Park.

But it was all to no avail so the police officers on foot took a statement from a couple of witnesses on Delaunay Street and went on their way.

This is probably the most exciting thing to happen in this neighbourhood for a while because there are young ones running everywhere and my news stringer can’t take a picture of anything because the excited kids are in the way.

It sounds really dramatic when you read the SMS there and then.

But disappointingly it dawns on me the next morning that it couldn’t have been that exciting because there’s nothing in my Inbox from the Police Media Unit, which covers everything.

There’s plenty of other drama in the emails from the police, but nothing about Amilcar Street and Koala Park in Ingleburn from Friday night.
