Police are appealing for public assistance to help identify a man following an assault in Liverpool earlier this year.

About 1.15am on Saturday, May 2014, a 33-year-old man and 26-year-old woman attended Woodward Park on Hoxton Park Road.

The pair was approached by a group of four unknown males wearing dark clothing.  It’s alleged one of the males armed himself with a baseball bat and struck the 33-year-old man in the head, when he fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

The group then kicked the man multiple times while he was on the ground, before they fled the scene.

The woman contacted emergency services who attended a short time later.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital. He remains in hospital in a stable condition and has received ongoing treatment for a fractured skull, bruising and brain damage.

Officers from Liverpool Local Area Command launched an investigation into the incident and a crime scene was established in the park.

Strike Force Lerak was later established to investigate the assault, with detectives now releasing a COMFIT (computer generated image) of a male who they believe may be able to assist with inquiries.

The male depicted in the COMFIT is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, with an olive complexion, about 20 years old, with short black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who knows the identity of the man depicted or has any information on the incident is urged to contact Liverpool detectives or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
