Overwhelming generosity: Catherine Chopping from Macarthur Homelessness Steering Committee collects some of the donated items at the halfway point of the drive for household items.

Do Something Day started out as a Wests Group Macarthur drive to help up to 100 homeless families.

But the response from the Macarthur community has been so overwhelming many more such families will receive the household items they need to move into temporary housing.

Indeed the steady flow of donations, from towels and quilts to toasters and kettles is still continuing at Wests Group Macarthur, which means even more families will benefit by the time all the items are handed over to the Macarthur Homelessness Steering Committee.

This will take place during a morning tea celebration on Do Something Day, Wednesday, July 25, at Wests Leagues Club.

“The Macarthur community really likes to support its own,’’ a Wests Group Macarthur spokesperson said.

“We filled quite a few vehicles and the donations are continuing to flow in to each of the Wests Group Macarthur clubs at Wests League Club, Wests Tennis Club, Country Club Gledswood Hills and Lakeside Golf Club Camden.

“This generosity has allowed us to significantly exceed our goal to assist 100 local families in partnership with Macarthur Homelessness Steering Committee (MHSC).

Everyone in the community is invited to attend the Do Something Day morning tea in the club’s foyer area from 9.30 to 11.30, where they will be able to enjoy a delicious Do Something Day cupcake for a gold coin donation to the MHSC.

As well as presenting all the donations received, Wests will be revealing a big surprise at the morning tea event – another reason to attend.
