Vital community asset: the newly expanded Mt Annan Leisure Centre is now officially open

The newly upgraded and expanded Mount Annan Leisure Centre (MALC) has been officially opened by Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak.

The $13.5 million construction project has transformed the leisure centre into a modern recreational facility with improved capacity for indoor sports, health and fitness activities.

“The redevelopment of this centre provides the community with a high quality sports facility that will meet the growing demand for indoor sports across the Camden area,” Cr Symkowiak said.

“This facility is a real community asset and its contemporary design makes it an inviting place to exercise, socialise and participate in sport and fitness activities,” she said.

The staged construction of the project began in April 2016 and has been delivered as scheduled, in September 2017.

The upgrades and improvements have included:

• Expansion of the health and fitness facilities

• New toilets and change rooms

• New two court indoor multipurpose sports hall

• Expansion of crèche facilities

• Upgrade of kiosk

• Additional car parking

• Refurbishment of the pool hall and amenities

Landscaping Centre operator, YMCA NSW, is now running new sports competitions and fitness activities made possible by the upgraded facilities.

“As operators of the centre, YMCA NSW would like to recognise this significant investment by Camden Council and Mayor Symkowiak and applaud their vision for supporting the health and wellbeing of the community now and into the future,” said YMCA NSW acting ceo Karen Twitchet.
