Ryan Gibson scored 89 runs for the Ghosts

Camden Campbelltown Ghosts returned from the north shore with the spoils of victory when Sydney Grade cricket resumed on Saturday for round eight of the competition.

The Ghosts had a solid win against the third placed Mosman Whales after getting away to a good start with the bat before their tail fell away.

Ryan Gibson continued his outstanding form to start 2015 with a solid 89 runs. Damien Mortimer 26, Joshua Clarke 35, Scott and Adam Coyte (36 and 39 respectively) scored the majority of the Ghosts total of 264 runs.

The afternoon session witnessed some outstanding bowling from the Ghosts, in the face of a middle order fight back from the home team. Opening bowlers Scott Coyte (3-57) and hardworking Tom Rogers (4-53) produced the required damage to dismiss Mosman, who were 17 runs from victory.

Bowling the final overs under pressure, Coyte and Rogers were superb. Earlier Adam Coyte’s spell of 10 straight overs for a return of 1-27 set the platform for the final bowling assault.

In second grade, played at Raby 1, the Ghosts second grade were sent in and found themselves in early trouble at 6-89. The locals managed to scramble to a defendable total of 174 which they shielded successfully dismissing Mosman for 122.

Abdul Hammed Kherkhah was the man of the match, taking 5-11 in an outstanding display of off spin bowling.

Earlier Jaydyn Simmons with 42 and a gutsy innings from captain David Ward, who retired hurt on 36, salvaged the Ghosts innings in the heat and humidity of the day.

Next week the Ghosts host University of NSW at Raby in one day matches throughout all grades. Play starts at 10am.

THE Fairfield Liverpool Lions also travelled north of the city for their round eight clash with Manly Warringah.

Jeremy Maher took five wickets for 29 when Manly batted first at Manly Oval and made 209.

But the Lions never even got close to the target, being dismissed for just 134.

Jake Dorean top scored with 36 and he received support from spinner Luke Ohrynowski, who was 35 not out at the close of play.

The Lions host Penrith this Saturday at Rosedale Oval, in another limited overs round. Play starts at 10am.
