In other electorate news, Mr Doyle says Marcias Women’s Refuge has received $771,040 additional funding under the Service Support Fund.

The additional funding was announced by the Department of Family and Community Services to assist unsuccessful tenderers such as Marcias, to provide complimentary services for the next 18 months.

Mr Doyle welc0med the funding for the refuge.

“Over the next three years, under the Going Home, Staying Home program the NSW Government will invest a record half a billion dollars to tackle homelessness head on, including over $14 million for South Western Sydney– a 5.07% increase on 2013/14,” Mr Doyle said.

Mr Doyle is also encouraging local residents to show their appreciation for grandparents by nominating theirs (or someone else’s) for the 2014 NSW Grandparent of the Year Awards.

“Many grandparents are unpaid carers, while others may still work or volunteer in the community, whatever it may be, the commitment of our grandparents to support their families and local community is invaluable.”

Grandparents Day was launched in 2011 by the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government to recognise the unique role that grandparents play in our community.

Nominations for the Grandparent of the Year Awards will close on Friday, September 26 and the categories are Grandparent Carer of the Year, Community Grandparent of the Year and Grand Friend of the Year. The awards will be announced on Grandparents Day, October 26. More information on how to nominate can be found on www.grandparentsday.org.au
