Man, 33, charged with murder of baby girl

A baby girl was admitted to Liverpool Hospital last November suffering from injuries to her head and body. The toddler died four days later and now a 33 year old man has been charged with her murder.

A man has today been charged with the murder of a baby girl.

On Friday, November 13, 2015, a two-month-old girl was admitted to Liverpool Hospital with a number of injuries to her head and body.

Detectives from the Child Abuse Squad’s Liverpool office and Liverpool Local Area Command were contacted and responded.

Later that afternoon, officers arrested a 33-year-old Liverpool man and took him to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Strike Force Websdale was established to investigate the incident.

During an appearance at Liverpool Local Court the following Tuesday (November 17), the man was charged with two additional offences:

– Cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent; and,

– Recklessly cause grievous bodily harm.

Later on that same night the young girl died as a result of her injuries.

The 33-year-old man, who has been in custody on remand, was further interviewed today and charged with murder by Strike Force Websdale detectives.

He is due to appear before Campbelltown Local Court this Wednesday.

The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.
