It was at first reported that a teenager had been shot while walking home from a party in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The initial police reports suggested the 17 year old had just left a party and was near the intersection of Woodhouse Drive and Jaggers Place in Ambarvale when he suffered a gunshot wound to his upper arm from an unknown assailant.

Today, a 20 year old man will appear in Campbelltown Local Court charged with discharging a firearm likely to injure a person and being in possession of a prohibited pistol.

Police will allege that the pistol was accidentally discharged by the 20-year-old man while he was travelling in the same vehicle as the 17-year-old who was struck in the arm by the bullet.

The accused, who was arrested and charged yesterday, has been refused bail to appear in court.

The injury to the 17 year old was not life threatening and the teenager, who was initially treated at Campbelltown Hospital, was later transferred to Liverpool Hospital to undergo surgery.

After speaking with the teenager in Campbelltown Hospital, police launched an appeal for information.
