Harry Hunt has stepped down ans president of Liverpool chamber after more than decade at the helm.

Just when you thought he’d be there for ever, motel mogul Harry Hunt is no longer the president of the Liverpool chamber of commerce.

There have been whispers galore about Hunt having been deposed in a coup, but the mill we got our information from says he is quite happy to hand over the reins to someone else after almost two decades in charge.

That someone else – local resident and businessman George Germanos – will formally become president at the AGM scheduled for Tuesday, December 6 in Liverpool golf club.

Mr Germanos is currently acting president, but it is certain that he will get the gig for the next 12 months at least.

There’s talk that the new chief and the board are very keen to not only energise the chamber and make it even stronger, but take it into a new direction.

Time will tell.

♦ At the recent luncheon at Wests Leagues, among other things we asked MP Angus Taylor, the assistant minister on cities, if his boss, Malcolm Turnbull, was safe or would the revolving PM door be in action as soon as a few polls show him losing the next election.

While agreeing that the people wanted to see some stable leadership in Canberra, he said:

“I think there’s no appetite in the Coalition party room for change. Never forget that the people who voted for stability last time still believe in stability.’’

2016sydneyweekendercamdenbeckjasonstevens♦ Camden was on show when hosts Jason and Beck Stevens from Channel Seven’s Sydney Weekender filmed a day in Camden segment.

The segment saw the hosts, pictured at left, having a morning coffee in R Coffee Co, lunch at Burger Frank, indulging in some retail therapy at Mind Over Manor and finishing for dinner and drinks at Upstairs at Fred’s.

This feature segment on Camden was the perfect follow up to the recent upgrades of Camden’s town centre, allowing Camden’s main street to be showcased. Sydney Weekender encouraged visitors to check out the Camden town centre’s recent makeover.

The program went to air late last month and word is that it was watched by more than 300,000 viewers.

♦ Campbelltown residents travelling along Pembroke Road may have noticed a giant brand new factory near the Streets complex.

The name of the new factory is Joyglobal, a manufacturer of underground and above ground mining equipment.

Joyglobal is part of the giant Japanese firm, Komatsu.

♦ Let’s finish off with a positive story about Liverpool and how council is inviting residents to take photos of their favourite local place for an opportunity to win dinner at Liverpool’s restaurant of the year, Gemelle.

“We’ve created a competition where you can take a photo of what you love about our great city, post it on Instagram, and use the hashtag #MyLiverpoolNSW so we can find it,’’ explains mayor Wendy Waller.

“The winner will receive a $100 voucher for dinner or lunch at Liverpool’s 2016 Restaurant of the Year, Gemelle Ristorante Italiano.

“We’re looking for photos that show your favourite place – it could be a picnic in your backyard, hanging out with friends in the city, or Saturday sport. So get snapping and posting, we can’t wait to see what you love about your city!”

You’d better hurry though, the competition closes on November 30 and the winner will be chosen by a panel of judges by December 7. For more information visit the website here.
