MP Angus Taylor says 400 local families will be connected when four fixed-wireless nbn towers are switched on over the next few weeks.

Fast broadband internet is on the way for more local families.

Four fixed-wireless nbn towers will be switched on by the end of September at Balmoral West, Bargo North, Mount Hunter and Hill Top South.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said about 400 households in these areas will benefit from this technology.

“The fixed-wireless rollout is flying along and expected to be mostly finished in 2018,” Mr Taylor said.

“Fixed-wireless is fantastic technology and has the highest customer satisfaction rating on the nbn.”

The fixed-wireless tower for Mount Hunter – due to go live towards the end of September – will service more than 130 premises directly, but is responsible for serving another 1430 premises as a key fibre hub site, the local MP said.

Planning for towers to service the Marulan and Tallong communities was also progressing.

Fixed-wireless will serve around five per cent of Australians, mostly in smaller towns and rural areas.

“Fixed-wireless delivers super-fast broadband through 1,700 fixed wireless towers around the nation, including more than 20 in Hume,” Mr Taylor said.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“The great news is current maximum speeds of 50 megabits a second (Mbps) download and 20 Mbps upload available to fixed wireless premises are set to double early next year to 100 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload.”[/social_quote]

In late June, Mr Taylor announced a major increase in data allowances to be delivered by the Sky Muster satellite service, with customers from October able to access 150 gigabytes of data at peak times per month.

Since July, two thirds of premises outside major urban areas in Australia have been able to order nbn services, with more than 80 per cent of regional NSW either ready to order a service, or currently under construction.

“Transitioning to the nbn is not automatic, and I encourage Hume residents to contact their preferred provider to find out information on the services which will be available,” Mr Taylor said.
