After a very successful season in Wollongong, The Eaton Gorge Theatre Company will be staging a season of Shakespeare in the Gardens with the classic play As You Like It in The Australian Botanic Garden at Mt Annan 7pm this Friday and Saturday (Valentine’s Day), February 13 and 14.
As You Like It is a classic Shakespeare comedy directed by Ian McColm that has all the twists and turns, mistaken identities, gender swapping, love, betrayal and silliness that we have come to love.
A cruel duke banishes his niece, Rosalind, from his kingdom so she runs away with his daughter Celia and the court fool Touchstone.
They take on different personas and begin their journey. In the meantime, a family feud with a younger brother Orlando and his cruel older brother Oliver forces him to also flee for his life.
Will they meet? Perhaps fall in love? But how can that happen when Rosalind is dressed as a man? Watch as they unravel the tangled web of deception.
“This family friendly performance is portrayed in an easily accessible and understandable way and Shakespeare’s magic with words and storytelling shines through,’’ says the director, Ian McColm.
“All of our locations offer a wonderful opportunity to experience outdoor theatre. In our fifth year of presenting outdoor Shakespeare, EGTC is very proud of this production.”
Audiences are encouraged to bring a blanket, a low deck chair, something warm and waterproof, some cushions and a picnic basket
If you want to know what others thought of the play, here’s a couple of happy audience members speaking:

Dylan Horvat February 1 at 4:26pm: “Congratulations to the cast and crew of Eaton Gorge Theatre Company’s production of As You Like It! Very well-cast (can’t go wrong with Ian McColm, Slade Shepherdson, Juliet Scrine and many of the others) and the contemporary setting (1960s) went fantastically.’’
