Mother’s Day celebration: Belgenny Farm oozes history.

A host of Mothers’ Day activities will take place across the Macarthur region next weekend (May 12-13) with locals and those from further afield heading to the historic region’s farms, restaurants, theatres and inns.

From 11am to 3pm on Sunday, May 13, Australia’s oldest farm – Belgenny Farm in Camden – will be abuzz with market stalls, historical tours, live entertainment, food trucks, pony rides, face painting and a petting zoo.

This year, a beer garden will also be on offer as part of the Family Fun Day for the first time.

Established by Elizabeth Macarthur – one of Australia’s greatest mothers – and her husband John in 1805, the convict-built Belgenny farm was renowned for many years for growing wheat, horticulture and grapes, as well as producing dairy and wool.

Today, the ironbark stables, blacksmith shop, creamery, smokehouse and cottage remain and it is still a working farm, as well as being a tourist attraction where visitors can enjoy a glimpse into the past.

Entry to the Mothers’ Day event is free.

A popular part of the annual event is a gourmet buffet lunch, served in the Granary, which overlooks the extensive Camden Park estate. Bookings are essential.

On Saturday, May 12, popular tenor Mark Vincent will perform a special Mothers’ Day weekend concert at The Cube in Campbelltown.

Mums and their entire families will be mesmerised by the power and beauty of Vincent’s voice, hailed by many as the best tenor voice in Australia.

Having released eight studio albums before his 24th birthday, Vincent’s career is going from strength, and he recently performed in My Fair Lady to rave reviews from audiences and musical director Julie Andrews.

The performance will begin at 8pm at the Cube, Campbelltown Catholic Club. Tickets are available from $49.

Other Mothers’ Day events taking place in the region include live music at Camden Golf Club, high tea at OTIS Grill – Rydges Campbelltown, a casual lunch with jumping castle in the gardens of Camden Valley Inn, a seafood buffet luncheon at Wests Leagues Club in Leumeah and a buffet brunch, live entertainment and petting zoo at Gledswood Hills Country Club.
