Gloria's Handbag
A show worth catching, Gloria’s Handbag is at Liverpool Library next week.

Has it been a while since you’ve seen a live play?

Or perhaps you’re just in the mood for a good laugh.

If this is the case, make sure you catch a special performance of the acclaimed Gloria’s Handbag on Tuesday, November 18 at Liverpool City Library.

It is 2021 in Nelson, New Zealand and Gloria, aged 97, hasn’t long to live. Her son Craig is pushing her to move to a “retireville” but she doesn’t want to leave her home.

On a whim, Gloria buys an extraordinary designer handbag.

This purchase sets off a series of unusual events which transform Gloria’s remaining days and enable her to send a message to the future.

Written by veteran New Zealand actor Helen Moulder and Australian Sue Rider (Meeting Karpovsky, Playing Miss Havisham), the play explores our modern society’s drive to accumulate “stuff’ and how our identity can be bound up with objects and the memories they evoke.

“Gloria’s Handbag has received widespread praise from audiences across the Tasman, who have described it as funny, clever and imaginative,” said Liverpool City Council Mayor Ned Mannoun.

“Take advantage of this chance to see a live performance at Liverpool City Library and enjoy an entertaining afternoon.”
