Sydney first grade premiership leaders Campbelltown Camden have put their first defeat of the season behind them with a strong showing on the weekend against University of NSW at Alan Davidson Oval.

The Ghosts captain Jarrad Burke won the toss and elected to bat in the round 11 two day fixture.

At stumps and after 96 overs, the Ghosts had amassed 337 runs for the loss of nine wickets to back up the skipper’s decision to bat.

A second consecutive century in the top grade by opening batsman Aaron Yabsley was the foundation for the big total, which should be enough to see the Ghosts return to the winners’ circle some time this Saturday afternoon.

Yabsley departed after compiling a fine innings to have 112 runs beside his name.

Despite some early wobbles when a few wickets fell cheaply, the opener was superb in steering the Ghosts to 214 before being caught.

Yabsley has been in superb form, and with 700 runs for the season thus far he has been tremendous value at the top of the innings.

Englishman Ollie Pope chipped in with 36 runs before Phillip Wells came to the crease at number six – instead of first drop where he usually bats – to see the Ghosts through to stumps.

Wells, who played beautifully for 82 not out, was well supported by Burke (25 runs), Lysaught (21 runs) and Webb (21 runs).

Skipper Jarrad Burke said he was happy with the day’s effort and had also enjoyed watching another Yabsley century.

“I think 337 is a satisfying total for this ground,” Burke said.

With the wicket being a little inconsistent in bounce, the Ghosts bowling attack have something to bowl at when play resumes next Saturday at 10.30am.
