Camden Cats squandered a healthy three quarter time lead in their disappointing six point loss to the St George Dragons at Fairfax Reserve, Harrington Park.
An aggressive Dragons outfit got the jump on the home team in the first quarter, as they kicked 5 goals to 2 goals for the term.
Camden coach Jed Ellis-Cluff implored his players to lift their effort and intensity during his quarter time address and his charges responded keeping their opposition to a measly 2 points in the second and third quarters of the Round 7 clash.
The Cats midfield started to fire after quarter time through B.J Gamble, Aaron Townsend and Michael “Fish” Coleman as the home side kicked 6 goals to nil to take a 20 point lead into the three quarter time break.
The Cats had a chance to ice the game half way through the last quarter, but full forward Josiah Ayling was unable to add to his 3 goal tally.
This missed opportunity saw the game’s momentum swing back in favour of St George as they finished the quarter and the game the stronger.
From the half way point of the last quarter it was all one way traffic as St George took things right up to the home side, scoring freely with a 7 goal final term.
A tough defeat for the Cats and one that they may rue in the race for a finals berth.
The Cats will now welcome Premier Division ladder leaders North Shore at Fairfax Reserve this coming Saturday at 2:20pm.
