Ideas needed: council is calling for feedback on its plans for a St Helens Park skate park.

A skate park for St Helens Park is one step closer to being realised, with community feedback now being sought on the concept plans for the park’s design.

Skate park users and other interested community members are invited to share their ideas by completing an online survey or provide feedback using a number of different platforms as part of the community consultation process currently underway.

Campbelltown City Council has engaged skate park design gurus, Enlocus, to create a design that will reflect the needs of community and cater for a broad range of users, such as skaters, scooter and BMX riders.

A design workshop is being held at Fisher’s Extreme Showcase tomorrow,  Saturday (November 8), giving skate park enthusiasts, and the community, an opportunity to share their ideas on the park’s design. A survey is also being conducted among attendees of this year’s Fisher’s Ghost Street Fair, also on tomorrow.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said feedback was important to ensure the final design reflected the needs of the community.

“The brand new skate park at St Helens Park is a great investment in our young people, but we want this space to be about inclusiveness – somewhere families can hang out that has a strong community feel,” Cr Lake said.

“Each skate park offers a somewhat different experience, and we’re inviting everyone to have a say on what they’d like to see at St Helens Park, while ensuring the park caters for amateurs through to experienced scooter and BMX riders, and skaters.

“We’re looking forward to delivering this new recreational space for our community, which will enable council to deliver more fantastic programs for young people in partnership with Totem Skate School and various community groups,” Cr Lake added.

The new St Helens Park Skate Park will be located at St Helens Park Reserve on Appin Road.

Suggestions on the park’s design may include elements of particular relevance for skaters and riders such as transitions, rails, stairs, hips, ledgers, manual pads, kickers and a mini ramp. Other general comments on the park’s proposed seating, shelter, lighting, landscaping and pathways are also welcome.
