Not happy, Gladys: MP Anoulack Chanthivong with local resident Azad Hossain and Labor transport spokesperson Jodi McKay at Glenfield station.

Commuters south of Glenfield will be severely impacted when direct train services to Liverpool, Parramatta and Blacktown cease later this year under “unfair and retrograde’’ changes to be introduced by the Liberal Government, says Labor MP Anoulack Chanthivong.

All T5 Cumberland line and T2 South Line services will start and end at Leppington Station from late 2017, forcing commuters south of Glenfield through to Macarthur to change at Glenfield.

The move has prompted an angry response from commuters living south of Glenfield, who already travel two hours or more each day to and from work.

It’s a sentiment echoed by Mr Chanthivong, the State Member for Macquarie Fields, who has called on the Liberal Government to reverse its unfair decision.

“The loss of any direct services in south west Sydney is a step backwards that will greatly inconvenience the hard working people in my electorate. It’s simply unfair,’’ Mr Chanthivong said.

“The retrograde changes to train services by this government will result in longer travel times and more congestion at Glenfield Station. It will also likely discourage people from catching public transport, which is wrong when roads in Western Sydney are already at gridlock.”

Labor’s transport spokesperson Jodi McKay said the loss of direct train services would be yet another blow for commuters in south west Sydney.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“People in south west Sydney already spend enough time catching trains to get to work. Any cut in services which makes public transport less accessible is simply not good enough,’’ Ms McKay said.[/social_quote]

“It’s cruel and unfair that commuters are set to be punished by the government for catching a train to and from work.

“Commuters in south west Sydney deserve better.”
