Countdown begins: The Western Sydney Wanderers return to Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Sunday, January 22 to take on Newcastle in an A-League round 16 clash.

The countdown has started to Sunday, January 22, the day big time football comes to the south west region.

Mark the date because that’s when Campbelltown Sports Stadium will host an A-League match between the Western Sydney Wanderers and the Newcastle Jets.

Fans can expect an electric atmosphere at the ground for the Round 16 match.

Wanderers will want to repeat their convincing win against the Jets in 2013 when the two teams last faced off in Campbelltown.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said local fans showed their devotion to football in August, when they braved the rain and cold to cheer the Wanderers on to victory against the Wellington Phoenix in the FFA Cup.

“I expect an even bigger turn out for January’s A-League match,” he said.

“Local residents, me included, love their football and I know they will jump at the chance to experience the game day atmosphere and see the Wanderers take on the Jets at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

“The A-League match will be just the beginning, with the Wanderers also set to play their three AFC Champions League home games at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in 2017, giving locals the chance to enjoy international club teams in action, right on our doorstep.

“This is also a fantastic opportunity for Campbelltown City Council to showcase our stadium – a world class facility, with easy public transport access and ample parking – to the broader community and internationally.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 5pm between the Wanderers and the Jets on Sunday, January 22.

This will be the second match of a double header which will see the Wanderers play Canberra United in the Westfield W-League at 2.30pm.

Ticket prices range from $11.50 for juniors through to $49 for family passes, and will be on sale to the general public through Ticketmaster from next Monday, December 5 at 2pm.

The AFC Champions League draw will be announced in December.
