We’ve got an eye out for you, scammers: MP Chris Hayes with local police.

The Federal Member for Fowler, Chris Hayes, has joined forces with local police to warn local residents about the various scams currently circulating.

The scams range from asking people, often via email, to send money in turn for millions of dollars to phone calls regarding fake insurance claims.

“There are a number of internet, telephone and in-person scams currently going around,’’ Mr Hayes said.

“It is important to always be vigilant and careful when giving out our personal details.

“These actions prey on people’s vulnerabilities and often target the more vulnerable members of our community including the elderly.

“Please contact my office if you would like a copy of ‘the little book of scams’ that highlights a variety of popular scams that regularly target Australian consumers and small business”, Mr Hayes said.

You can also visit SCAMwatch, created by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) to check if an offer is indeed a scam or to report a scam.

You can contact SCAMwatch InfoCentre on 1300 795 995, or online at www.scamwatch.gov.au

“It is important to be vigilant and to keep our law enforcement agencies informed regarding the ever-inventive ways criminals think of to scam unsuspecting victims,” Chris Hayes said.
