Champions on and off the field win monthly awards

Jared Flanagan, a Wests Hockey Club junior, has taken out the Wests Group Macarthur Senior Sports Award for July.

The July winners of the Wests Sports Council awards are local champions representing hockey, netball, cricket, rugby league, triathlon and swimming

Jared Flanagan, 17, who has been named Senior Sportsperson of the month, is a Wests Hockey Club junior and has recently been selected in the NSW Under 21 hockey squad.

He was also selected in the NSW State Public School team, after playing for the Sydney South West Team in the NSW High School Titles held in June.

Jared plays in both the Wests Hockey Club’s under 18s and first grade sides, as well as in the Sydney Premier League in seconds and backing up for firsts.

Lauren Hayes from Bluejays Netball Club has won the Youth Sportsperson award for July.

The 16 year old has been a member of the Bluejays family for four years and has accomplished a great deal in her time at the club.

Lauren is a well-respected and valuable member of Bluejays who spends all day Saturday at the courts representing the club as a player, coach, umpire and supporter.

Rishab Luthra from Magpies Cricket Club has won the Junior Sportsperson Award for July.

The 10 year old plays in the Magpies Under 11 Div 2 cricket team, which won the premiership.

Rishab’s season stats were: Batting: 226 runs, highest score 92 not out, average 113 including 5 not outs; bowling 25 overs, 8 wickets, 32 runs, best figures 3-6, average of 4 and economy rate 1.3 runs per over with five field catches.

Rishab plays representative cricket for Camden District Cricket Association (CDCA) in the NSW Under 10 Foster Shield.

Oran Park Gregory Hills JRLFC under 10s have won the Sports Team award for July.

They are the first ever Oran Park Gregory Hills JRLFC team to be minor premiers.

Team members are Hayden Yates, Ryan O’Grady, Jaxon Kerr, Cooper Senior, Lucas Klarich, Ashton Small, Lucas Fallon, Max Morris, Nikita Paramomov, Lachlan De Brander, Christopher Katu- Feaunati, Jag Singh.

Sarah Eagles from Macarthur Triathlon Club has taken out the Encouragement of Sports Award for July.

Aged just six, Sarah is the youngest member of the Eagles family but she is one of Macarthur Triathlon Club’s hardest workers on race day.

Sarah always gives her all in her own race but then patiently waits for the rest of her family to complete their races before she can really get into action in her favourite race day role, packing up!

Sarah can always be found helping to pick up the bike racks, removing the witches’ hats and other course markers, rolling up the mats and rescuing the on course signage.

Phillip Carter from Mount Annan Swim Club wins the Spirit of Sports Award for July.

Phillip joined the Mount Annan Swimming Club in 2012, the same time his two young sons started swimming with the club.

In 2015, when the club was going through challenging times, he stepped up to take on the presidency.

He was able to recruit great volunteers who have helped the club grow in membership and made the club profitable so that its future is looking bright.

Wests Group Macarthur, the home of sport, hosts local sports awards for members of sporting teams in the Macarthur region. Each of the annual winners in the six categories receives $500 at the Sports Dinner held at Wests League Club.
