A summer campaign aimed at fostering safer celebrations and reducing alcohol and drug related harm among young people has wrapped up this week.

Youth Solutions’ Celebrate Safe and Well campaign directly engaged with more than 3,500 people through November to January, reaching countless others through its advertising and multimedia strategies.

The campaign was delivered in partnership with Campbelltown Catholic Club.

Throughout the campaign period Youth Solutions engaged with young people, distributing promotional materials and handing out safer celebrations guides filled with practical tips young people can employ to make their celebrations safer.

At campaign stalls young people also took part in interactive activities which helped them to build skills and knowledge in relation to standard drink measures, strategies to support friends, handling emergency situations, resisting peer pressure and identifying and implementing safety strategies while out or celebrating.

The campaign messages were also shared via posters which were displayed at Campbelltown Catholic Club, McDonald’s in Macarthur restaurants, Macarthur Square and other community locations.

Information packs containing posters and guides were also provided to community organisations and all secondary schools in Macarthur and Wingecarribee.

“We’ve had a fantastic response to the Celebrate Safe and Well campaign and it is encouraging and to see young people really take something away from it,” Youth Solutions chief executive officer Geraldine Dean said.

“Campaigns such as this give us an opportunity to engage with a large number of young people and provide them with the information and support they need to make safer choices when they are celebrating, heading out or drinking alcohol.

“We see this campaign as an important cog in the wheel for preventing drug and alcohol related harm to young people in our community and improving their health, wellbeing and resilience.’’
