Tenacious Wests Tigers set for Eels test

Tenacious Wests Tigers set for Eels test

Their new found resilience will be under scrutiny once again when the Wests Tigers run out to Bankwest Stadium to take on Parramatta in round six on Easter Monday. Head coach Michael Maguire has just named the same 17 players who featured in last Thursday’s heart stopping win over the Broncos in Brisbane. The 22-16 victory was iced in the last minute of the match, when a whirlwind run by Michael Chee Kam ended with him planting the ball over the try line. Wests Tigers celebrate their last gasp win over the Broncos in Brisbane. The third win of the… Read more »

Camden Cats cop football lesson from Sydney University

Camden Cats cop football lesson from Sydney University

Sydney University boot another goal at Fairfax Reserve. They may have gone down, but the Camden Cats did enough against Sydney University on the weekend to show that they will be a Sydney AFL force in 2019. Just one mighty effort to stop the visitors from booting a goal just before the end of the third quarter tells you all you need to know about this Macarthur football side. Sydney University, already ahead by half a dozen goals, had possession just metres from the Cats goal square. Several Uni attempts to kick a goal are thwarted by desperate defence from… Read more »

Resilient Eagles on top after second half blitz

Resilient Eagles on top after second half blitz

Sunday’s Ben Stevens Memorial Cup clash between East Campbelltown Eagles and Wentworthville Magpies at Waminda Oval was a lot more than just a game of footy. Sure, the Eagles displayed their trademark resilience in the second half to put the Magpies away 34-16, but it took a very good pep talk from coach Richard Barnes at the break to ignite the boys from Campbelltown. The result kept the large crowd happy, but as club president Daniel Draper said afterwards the day was as much about mental health foundation Headspace as it was about winning on the field. The day commemorated… Read more »

Wests Tigers hit rock bottom

It had to be. Rock bottom. After the week in hell. And so it was. In the deep north of Australia. More than 2,000 kilometres from Balmain. Even more from Campbelltown. About 50 more, give or take. It was 20-0 after 20 minutes, but most Wests fans would have believedRead more »

Wests Tigers smashed by Storm

The Wests Tigers missed a golden opportunity to move up the NRL ladder tonight, when they found a way to lose a game they should have won. In front of a miserable crowd of just over 6,000 hardy souls on a cold Campbelltown night,  Robbie Farah’s decimated team just couldn’tRead more »

Pat Richards key man for Wests

The song in grandma’s time said ‘‘you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone’’ and I have to admit that’s how I feel about Braith Anasta now. For most of the season a posse of Wests Tigers observers have been calling for Anasta’s head, because they felt he wasn’tRead more »

It’s Benji versus Robbie on Sunday

Predictably all the talk so far about Sunday’s NRL clash between Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra has centred on the face off between the old bull, Benji Marshall, and the young gun who took his spot, Luke Brooks. For Benji maybe this match is one he has been dreadingRead more »
