Slugging us to park at Campbelltown Hospital a new low, says Warren

Campbelltown MP Greg Warren has taken the issue of paid parking at Campbelltown Hospital all the way to the floor of the Parliament of NSW.

In the coming months the NSW Liberal Government will, for the first time, slug patients, their loved ones and staff with paid parking at Campbelltown Hospital.

Mr Warren has demanded the government reverse what he describes as an “irrational and ill-conceived’’ decision.

He says he has spoken to many staff at the hospital as well as a large number of local residents throughout Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur region, who have expressed their displeasure, anger and frustration regarding the state government’s decision.

In the Parliament of NSW, Mr Warren, pictured above, introduced a notice of motion last week that stated that the house:

Acknowledges public transport links to Campbelltown Hospital are inconvenient, impractical and lacklustre;

Recognises patients and their loved ones have little option but to drive to Campbelltown Hospital due to inadequate public transport links;

Notes the opposition from Campbelltown Hospital staff regarding the decision to introduce paid parking at the hospital;

Notes the overwhelming opposition from the Campbelltown community regarding the decision to introduce paid parking at Campbelltown Hospital;

Demands the government reverses its disgraceful decision to introduce paid parking at Campbelltown Hospital immediately.

 “Staff don’t want to be charged to park at Campbelltown Hospital and the community don’t want to be charged to park at the Campbelltown Hospital,’’ says Mr Warren.

 “The only people who want to see patients, their loved ones and staff slugged to park at Campbelltown Hospital are the money hungry NSW Liberals.

“This decision is simply about profiteering off the misfortune of others.

 “Even for the NSW Liberals, it’s an all new low to use taxpayers’ money to build something for the private sector to profit from.

 “I’m calling on all my local colleagues across all levels of government to put politics aside and their community first by fighting this appalling and unfair decision,’’ he said.

“Rather than make a brief pit stop at the hospital for a photo opportunity, I feel time would be better served by every local representative siding with their communities and fighting the introduction of paid parking at Campbelltown Hospital.”
