The Group 6 Country Rugby League selectors have named the senior rep team to travel to Batemans Bay this Friday, May 1, to take on Group 16 in round one of the 2015 Greater Southern Region Senior Representative Season.

The team has a sprinkling of former NRL stars, including Ray Cashmere, Bryce Gibb and Stuart Flanagan, who has been handed the captaincy.

Selectors have appointed Russell Lewis as coach and his team will include Robbie Payne as assistant coach, Warren Horsfield as manager, Dennis Zammitt the stats man, with Phill Perry head trainer and David Arthur sports trainer.

The winner of this round one clash at Batemans Bay will play Group 7 on May 9, and Group 6 CRL Management is hoping that with the talent the G6 team has to offer this season, with even more players still to come into the round 2 team if needed, that G6 will not only be hosting Group 7 in Moss Vale in a fortnight’s time, that G6 has a very good chance of progressing past the next round.

After round 2 the Greater Southern Stars regional team will be selected from the Group 6, Group 7, and Group 16 teams to play in the CRL Senior Championships on May 23.

Also named on the weekend were the U16 and U18 Redbacks squads, which will represent the Greater Southern Region in the CRL U16 and U18s Championship on the June long weekend in Muswellbrook.

Seven Group 6 players were named in the U16s and six in the U18s (see panel below).

Both squads start training together this Wednesday night in preparation for the championship.

“This is a great opportunity for our boys,’’ Group 6 management said.

“Hopefully our Group 6 boys will play their best in front of the CRL and NRL club selectors for an opportunity to be selected in the CRL representative teams and an opportunity to leave a good impression on a NRL scout.’’
