Great work: deputy mayor Meg Oates with young artist Jessica Fesic and her mural on the Bradbury Park side of the pedestrian underpass to Queen Street during yesterday’s official unveiling.

Jessica Fesic’s mural at the Bradbury Park side of the pedestrian underpass connecting it with Queen Street was unveiled yesterday.

The young artist did the honours herself, with a little help from Campbelltown deputy mayor, Meg Oates, who was effusive in her praise of the project.

Cr Oates said that Campbelltown Arts Centre and the Little Orange Project Studio had formed a wonderful partnership in creating the public artwork.

“Great work, guys,’’ the deputy mayor said.

“And of course Jessica Fesic, who is a key member of the Little Orange project and who has produced a beautiful mural for this pedestrian underpass,’’ Cr Oates said.

The Little Orange Project is a collaboration between Campbelltown Arts Centre and local artists with a disability.

Jessica’s mural was part of local International Day of People with Disability celebrations organised by Campbelltown Council.

The theme for the day was “transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all’’.

As well as the official unveiling of the mural and a plaque commemorating the event, the day’s activities included two tactile art making workshops with artists David Capra and Julie Finch, and which were open to the community.

Judging by the number of people who watched the unveiling of Jessica’s public artwork at the underpass, the workshops were well patronised.

As for the artist herself, Jessica was quite humble about her achievement when she was given the microphone.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to create this mural,’’ the young artist said to vigorous applause.

Guests attending the day were also treated to a community barbecue cooked by members of Ingleburn Rotary Club.
