This month marks two years since land at Appin Valley was snapped up in record time.

The entire 336 block neighbourhood sold out within a year.

Appin Valley was developed by Walker Corporation with the rural surroundings in mind, luscious green open spaces and a network of walking paths connect the neighbourhood with the existing township.

Appin Valley resident Jessica Mizzi-Buckley says that the value of the land and promise of a semi-rural lifestyle was a distinct part of their decision to build at Appin Valley.

“We found that the blocks of land at Appin Valley were sized well and very reasonably priced. The area was quiet and we wanted to let our son grow up in a semi-rural area,” she says.

The semi-rural charm of Appin is not lost on new residents who have moved from other areas within the Macarthur region as well as relocating from areas across Sydney.

It is this semi-rural feel and lifestyle of the region that is important to balance with the needs of this growing community.

Danny Torres, a former resident of Macquarie Links, talks about the appeal of Appin Valley for his family. “We were attracted to Appin Valley because of the friendly semi-rural atmosphere while  only 15 minutes to Campbelltown and vital amenities/facilities like hospitals, churches, schools, shops, and only 25 to 30 minutes to the beaches,” says Mr Torres.

The semi-rural nature of Appin is more than just a location, it’s a lifestyle.

Appin is growing to meet the needs of the local community, but this is still limited in terms of services and facilities.

The local medical centre and IGA are important to the residents, however the community would benefit from more options for child care, cafes and services.

Dr Huy Tran of Appin Family Practice has been part of the Appin community for the past two years and has expanded the services and opening hours to serve the local community.

“The community of Appin is very supportive of the local businesses and all businesses show their appreciation of this support by trying to provide the best possible service,’’ says Dr Tran.

While maintaining the semi-rural charm is highly important, immediate access to schools, shops, day care and facilities is a concern.

Bozena MacMahon has been a resident of Appin Valley for five months and chose the area for its close proximity to work, major shopping centres as well as the southern beaches but looking ahead, stated that the area needed better infrastructure in the future as the area grows.

With a young son in the family, Mrs Mizzi-Buckley is looking into the future for child care and schooling options available.

“It would be good to see more child care centres in the local area as there aren’t many options,’’ she says.

“As the community is growing, basic amenities such as shops, schools and day care are needed. They need to be on the radar for the future.”

Sonya Kirby moved from neighbouring suburb St Helen’s Park.

“Coming home to Appin Valley has a warm feeling, a feeling of being a part of a community where we can all understand and be in this together, grow together.

“I love the community. We have met so many people and we all talk, are friends, give advice and support, and we all watch out for each other and most people are so friendly.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Being a young couple is great as it’s a place full of growing families and couples who are starting out, just like us,” she says.[/social_quote]
